As an old gamer switching from 1st edition AD&D to D&D 5E, some things have been hard to adapt to. So here's a mean old man meme along the lines of "Hey you kids, get out of my dungeon!"
When I was your age…
Magic Missile started with just ONE missile. Of course, we got extra missiles for free at higher levels. If our magic user made it that far.
Paladins and rangers didn't get spells until 8th or 9th level. And thieves and fighters with spells? That's just crazy talk.
Identify spell dropped your Constitution eight points for 24 hours! And you had to roll to learn things about the item.
Wizards have a d6 for hit dice? We had a d4 and giant rats were a real danger.
Every stat had different bonuses, none of them were the same.
A night's rest cures all your hit points? We got back a point a DAY. You HAD to get magic healing.
When your familiar died, you took damage. And you couldn't get another for a whole year!
Cantrips were literally little spells like salting your food or warming your bath, none of them did damage. And certainly not 2d10 at 5th level!
