The Legacy:
Thorn was born into the Gilded Claw tribe, a venerable Tabaxi family known for their ancient duty as protectors of powerful relics. The Gilded Claw tribe was entrusted with a critical mission: to guard and conceal the Ebon Embrace, an artifact of unimaginable power. The Ebon Embrace was composed of four pieces, each fragment imbued with dangerous energies that could wreak havoc if reunited and unsealed. To prevent this, the family swore a blood oath to hide the artifact and ensure its power was never unleashed.
Generations ago, the Gilded Claw tribe divided the Ebon Embrace into four pieces, each hidden in different locations and protected by elaborate wards and magical defenses. Thorn’s family was tasked with safeguarding one such piece—the Obsidian Fang—a shard of dark crystal with the potential to corrupt and devastate. It was concealed in a hidden forest within the Yuirwood, a site known only to the tribe.
The Ebon Embrace was not merely a relic to be safeguarded but a force that needed to be destroyed. Ancient texts and cryptic warnings revealed that the artifact’s combined power had the potential to unravel the fabric of reality itself. The tribe’s blood oath had been made not only to protect but to conceal the artifact’s true danger from those who might seek to use it. The tribe was searching for a way to destroy the artifact, but had so far been unsuccessful in doing so.
The Fall of the Gilded Claw:
Despite their best efforts, the Gilded Claw tribe was betrayed by an insider. A faction desiring to exploit the artifact's power launched a devastating assault on the tribe. During the attack, the Obsidian Fang was stolen, and many of Thorn’s kin were killed or scattered, while Thorn narrowly escaped with his life. The loss of the Obsidian Fang and the slaughter of his kin left him with a burning desire to both recover the fragment and prevent all four fragments of the Ebon Embrace from being reunited while in malevolent hands.
The Present Day:
Thorn's mission is a race against time to locate, destroy the remaining pieces of the Ebon Embrace, and find a method to do so before they can be used for dark purposes.
Thorn wishes to develop his skills as a ranger to be finely tuned to this singular goal: improving his knowledge of ancient lore, his combat prowess, and his survival skills to track down and neutralize the dangerous fragments of the artifact. His quest is also driven by a sense of duty to bring an end to his tribe’s responsibility over the Ebon Embrace once and for all.
