Star Wars Thoughts

November 2024
Thinking about ideas for Star Wars. I don't want to do a Jedi campaign again like "Shadows of Discord". I could redo "Rebellion", but I don't know if I want to. I could either do a tramp freighter story during the Galactic Civil War, or more likely, do my post-Empire campaign idea where the PCs are colonists on a Rim World.

Pros
Everyone has seen Star Wars, so lots of visuals.
Soft sci-fi for casual fans.
Droids, aliens, alien life forms and biospheres.
Evil government, pirates, crime lords to supply enemies.
Fast star travel.
Fairly simple fast rules system.
Lots of source material.
Simpler background for players to write character backstories.
Cheap ships, easy modifications.
Simple, cinematic ship combat.

Cons
The GM is a little tired of Star Wars.
Single nation setting, no diplomacy or international conflict (although there's plenty of conflict in Star Wars. It's right in the name).
Star travel is too fast, hard to make detailed maps of areas. Regional map might have a few famous worlds, and minor worlds could be stuck in anywhere (which could be a pro).
Armor/Damage system has never been my favorite. Hmmm, it's not my favorite, but replacing the SWd6 armor plus Strength roll with a CP2020 fixed armor value might work. That will need some serious number crunching.
Dull uniformity of ranged weapons; almost everything is a blaster.
