Ruan Weir. It’s my name. If you check my ident card, it’s on there.
What do you look like?
Like this. My ident card says I’m 24, but everyone is always calling me “youngster” and “kid”. 24 is *old*.
What is your style and attitude? (How do you dress and talk? Are you cultured or rim folk?)
I’m originally from Londinium, but I went to school on Ariel to be a paramedic at the Allied Health Acad. I graduated in the top of my paramedic class with my Class I Advanced Atmospheric Rescue and Life Support certification. That got a me right into a job on Gonghe working Capital City ALS Transport. It was only for atmospheric, but they were going to pay for me to get my certification for orbital and maybe even interplanetary rescue which would have been absolutely shiny as heck.
So I’ve got the Londinium accent, but not as bad as the captain does. I don’t really have a lot of money for fancy clothes and I wouldn’t know what to buy if I did. I just stick to basic black utility pants, black shirt, black jacket. I keep it simple.
What kind of impression do you think you first make?
Everybody always says I’m a goofball, but I’m actually pretty serious. I don’t think they can tell when I’m joking.
Where do you hail from? (Where were you born? Where did you grow up? What was your childhood and youth like? What does your family think about you?)
This is where it gets weird. I know I grew up on Londinium. I can picture my room sometimes… And my housing block, but not the actual house. We had this kitchen with a faulty reclamation unit and it would occasionally burp up stuff we’d thrown away weeks before, but it would all be melted together like sculptures with funny faces. My dad would get out all these really old tools and try to fix it. I can’t remember what he looked like, my dad. Just that he had old tools and cursed in Mandarin.
What is your best quality as a person? (And your worst quality? Be honest. It’s not like it’s a job interview or anything.)
I’m still trying to figure myself out, but I’ve got a few ideas. I like to work hard. I want to make the Captain and the crew happy. Those seem like pretty good qualities that I have.
Bad qualities? Well, I wish I didn’t keep making so much trouble for the crew. I don’t even know how it’s happening. One minute everything is fine, then something snaps. It wasn’t like this on Ariel or Gonghe, but then again I wasn’t flying around in a space ship having people trying to hijack us. And the thing with Naomi and shooting that guy? I was just trying to protect her from people who clearly had bad intentions.

Armed, but Friendly.
Do you have any quirks we should know about?
See the above. I just really don’t like being without a side arm. But it’s more like it’s there just in case because I really don’t want to actually shoot anyone.
Describe your favorite things and your least favorite things (foods, drinks, books, music, assault rifles, etc.)
I travel pretty light. I have a pretty nice jacket that I got from my… previous, sort of, employer. It’s this odd sort of fabric that’s really lightweight, but really strong. And from that same employer I have a pretty shiny pistol. (See the above again.) It’s an Iskellian Camaro which you don’t see a lot of. In the shoulder holster I have, you can’t even see I’m wearing it.
I have a personal cortex box that I have to carry around which I kind of hated, but now I guess it’s not so bad. I had to keep it because I’d made a promise to Adelai Niska that I would return a favor. For 2 years I carried it around, dreading a call. But now that we’re square, he said to keep it.
Who is your “nemesis” and who are your allies?
There’s a guy looking for me named Locke. I don’t exactly know what his plans are, but I know they’re not good for me or anyone else.
Well, the Niska’s helped me out but I’m not ready to call them “allies” exactly. I’m taking applications for allies currently if anyone is interested.
What is your romantic life like? (Orientation? A virgin? Has there been a “great love”?)
I like to flirt a bit I suppose. There was this really cute Trauma Admitting nurse at Central City General named Ada. I could always tell it was her voice when I radioed in. I’d tell her it was “Operator ALS0011242 Transport reporting inbound” and then she’d say “Hello inbound, this is Receiving 012. Ruan, are you bringing me trouble?” and I’d always make up some crazy story about who we were bringing in. She’d always wink at me and smile when I went by. Then I realized that it was really because I reminded her of her brother who never came back from the war. She never told me that, but I just knew that was why. I still winked back though.
What do you fear? (Do you have reoccurring nightmares or dreams?)
I fear the past and going back to it. I’m still trying to sort through it all in my head, but it keeps getting clearer all the time. I can remember going into places; guarded places, private places, places that didn’t want me in there. And while I was there I would kill people. Sometimes that was the objective, other times, they were just in my way.
I’ve never told anybody about it. Would anyone believe me? What would they think of me?
And I do have dreams about the things I did except when I wake up, I realize they’re not really dreams. They’re memories.

I like kids. As the ship's medic, I already have a caretaker role and as the youngest, I can probably relate to being cooped up in a spaceship for weeks. Depending on her personality, I could be sort of an older brother/partner in chaos, kind of like Kaylee and River
