Hyperspace Pursuit

I think originally the idea was if you scanned a ship as it jumped to hyperspace, you could estimate its course closely enough to estimate its destination. But now, knowing how fast the ships are and that their courses are zig zags around intervening stars, that doesn't make sense.
Let's look at the original trilogy canon. In A New Hope, Vader's Star Destroyer Devastator presumably comes out of hyperspace right on the tail of the Tantive IV at Tatooine. Looking (reluctantly) at the end of Rogue One, the Devastator must have followed the smaller corvette through hyperspace. After the escape from the Death Star, Leia claims they are being tracked, Solo confidently asserts "Not this ship". In The Empire Strikes Back, Boba Fett is able to follow the Millenium Falcon after the Battle of Hoth to Bespin. Finally, in Return of the Jedi, the imperial base on Endor has a hyperspace sensor that detects the approach of the Rebel fleet to attack the second Death Star.
So how do I want to handle this? Tracking/following a ship through hyperspace is possible, with several conditions. One, the pursuer must be at least the same speed class or faster. Too slow and the tracked ship will draw ahead and possibly be lost. Two, the pursuer must have the sensors needed for the job, possibly something like a crystal grav field trap. Imperial capital ships obviously do and Boba Fett's Slave One must as well, which makes sense for a bounty hunter's ship. A side note, Boba Fett was able to track the Falcon because they escaped on their backup hyperdrive, otherwise he wouldn't have been able to follow. Finally, pursuit is somewhat dangerous, since the target ship has a clean navigational course plotted, but the tracker is following along in their wake. Failure by the tracking ship's astrogator can result in coming too close to a gravity well and being knocked out of hyperspace, losing the target, or even being destroyed.
