Hellboy 5E

Background
We have done Hellboy before, using modified Cortex/Supernatural rules. Kevin and Emily got the new version which runs on D&D 5E. So we're looking at playing a one shot. But I'm not impressed with the lack of flexibility in the system for characters, it seems skewed towards most PCs being human. But, since it runs on 5E, I can port in character backgrounds and monsters from 5E.

Origins (Races)
Human
Remarkable Human- Diversity (+1 to 2 stats), Do or Die (reroll one failed saving throw 1/long rest), Find a way (Start session with 1 Ingenuity point), Stayed in School (pick 2 skills), Unmatched Focus (pick one feat), read/Speak/Write English and another language
Limited Awakening Some supernatural ability, give up one human attribute to pick a supernatural attribute, most are feats. Choose from:
Limited Psychic- gain Psychic Awakening feat.
Cursed- Resistant to poison, advantage on saves vs poison. First time damage takes you to 0HP, you go to 1HP instead, once/long rest.
Mystic Bloodline- You can channel magic with less risk.
Fae Influenced- Gain Fae Charm feat.

The Cursed
Hollow- cursed by contact with an item.
Vampire- A full vampire.
Demon- You may be an actual demon summoned from Hell and bound, or the child of parents who swore an infernal contract.
Servant- Willing or unwilling servant to a higher power (ie, a Warlock in 5E).

Psychic
Medium- Read psychic impressions to gain knowledge
Psychokinetic- Control water, fire or electricity
Telekinetic- Move things with telekinesis

Ghost
Bound- You can manipulate the physical world or manifest a physical form
Wandering- a disembodied spirit

Fae
The Favored- Humans who have been granted the favor and support of the Fae
The Replaced- A changeling who grew up in place of a human child, or a human child who grew up in the fae world before returning to human culture

Life before the BPRD Choose one:
Academic- +1 Int, extra language, History or Religion skill, Bonus ingenuity on Investigation.
All-rounder- Extra Do or Die, choose 2 more skills and 1 more language.
Central Recruitment (other agency)- Advantage on saves vs fear and psychic damage, Ignore effect of first injury
Military/Police- +1 to Str or Con, +1HP per level, Choose Athletics or Bureaucracy skill
Old Hat- Proficient in one saving throw, choose 2 skills and one language
Professional- +1 to Dex or Cha, choose Technology or Persuasion skill, Reroll one Ability check/long rest

Crossed the Line- Choose 2 skills from Occult, History, Religion, Science or Technology. Once per adventure, know how to find information on an artifact, creature, legend or location.
Discovered- Choose 2 skills from Occult, Religion, Steady Hands or Science. Advantage on Wisdom(Intuition) checks to discern behaviour of supernatural creatures or witnesses.
Recommended- Choose 2 skills from Athletics, Bureaucracy, Religion, Steady Hands, or Survival. Old Contacts

Backup Agent- Cool under pressure (failed concentration check becomes success once/long rest).
New Recruit- Fresh in my head (Spend an Ingenuity point for advantage on roll for a skill you have, once/long rest).
On the Periphery- Seen things before (Spend an Ingenuity point for advantage on a saving throw, once/long rest).
Seasoned Operative- Action over detail (Gain advantage on an initiative roll, once/ long rest).

Field Agent- (Fighters) The frontline troops of the BPRD, skilled at investigating unusual events and destroying threats.

BPRD Consultant- Specialist brought in from another organization that deals with supernatural threats. Could be a catholic exorcist, cryptozoologist, Native American shaman or a witch hunter.

Experimental Engineer- mad scientist techies, building new devices to fight evil. Sometimes they blow up.

Theoretical Practitioner- You apply scientific principles to do magic rituals better.
