Captain David Windsor

A former Londinium officer, the captain was a pilot/officer for the Alliance Navy at the start of the war, but became disgusted with the Alliance treatment of enemy combatants and then defected to the Independents. Character appearance: Jack Davenport, who played Commodore Norrington in the Pirates of the Carribbean movies.

Captain Windsor's Contacts

Shen Esposito is a former Independent Space Navy planning officer from Beaumonde. Now he's something of a cargo broker, although many of his jobs are "off the books" so to speak. Hispanic male, late 30's.

Tao Lien is a freighter captain from Persephone. She didn't fight in the war, but did carry cargoes for the Independents. Asian female, late 40's. Her ship is a Type J named Xiao-Xing (Morning Star).

Nelson Hill is one of the captain's oldest friends. Nelson is also from Londinium and attended the naval academy with Windsor. They transferred into Alliance service, but Hill stayed. He is currently captain of the Swordfish, an Orca class corvette stationed in the Georgia system. White male, red hair, mid 40's.

Allen Simpson is a police officer on New Melbourne, he dealt with Windsor while he was trying to find out what happened to the transport Victoria Townshend was on.

Captain Windsor's Questionnaire

Your name is? (Is that your real name? If not how did you acquire this nickname? Do you have any titles or pseudonyms?)
Captain David Windsor (descended from an English family that never accepted being annexed by the USA and is fiercely proud of his English traditions, eg, tea drinker, bitches about weak beer, etc.) Former crew mates nicknamed him "Captain Limey" but, of course, he doesn't like that much…

What do you look like?
Typical "military" type, 6'0, 200lbs, crew cut, going slightly grey, average looks.

What is your style and attitude? (How do you dress and talk? Are you cultured or rim folk?)
Stereotypical British military type… kind of like Picard but not French, I guess if he's a Blackjack he dresses accordingly, cultured, speaks formally, especially in business dealings

Do you have any quirks we should know about?
The English stuff from above… is a bit of a perfectionist and certainly wants things in his boat to be orderly and organized

What kind of impression do you think you first make?
Stick up his ass, very formal… but warms up once you get to know him

Where do you hail from? (Where were you born? Where did you grow up? What was your childhood and youth like? What does your family think about you?)
As he's a Brit from the Core, I would guess Londinium makes sense. Grew up in a reasonably affluent (but not too wealthy) family. Childhood and youth were good, was always encouraged to join the military as an officer (would have went to a military college if such a thing exists in the 'Verse). Family was very proud when he did join the military, but the father was bitterly disappointed when he switched sides to the Independents and has been known to say "I have no son…"

What is your best quality as a person? (And your worst quality? Be honest. It’s not like it’s a job interview or anything.)
Best = Fiercely loyal and protective of his crew. Worst = Can be inflexible due to his upbringing and personality

Describe your personality in only two words.
English Picard

Describe your favorite things and your least favorite things (foods, drinks, books, music, assault rifles, etc.)
Favourite - anything British (beer, tea, food, etc…) Least favourite - anything not British (but secretly loves all things Chinese)

They say that you can judge a man by the enemies he makes and the friends that he keeps. Who is your “nemesis” and who are your allies?
He cannot stand anyone who is dishonest. He may work "under" the law, but is always honest with his crew and contacts and his word is his bond. He has a great reputation for delivering on time and on cost… but likes things done very properly. Doesn't have any great enemy, but some who deal with him dislike his somewhat superior attitude and hold it against him. Very loyal to his crew, but hard to get to know, so he doesn't have any great friends, either.

What is your romantic life like? (Orientation? A virgin? Has there been a “great love”?)
The love of his life was his childhood sweetheart back on Londinium. She was the daughter of one of his father's well to do friends, and they planned to marry after the war. His defection changed all of that, as his father and her father look upon him as a traitor. She was still in love with him and, so that they could still be together, left home for a colony on New Melbourne where they could be together after the war. The ship she was on disappeared… and has never been found…

What do you fear? (Do you have reoccurring nightmares or dreams?)
Fears that one day, he will run into a situation where he has to choose between survival and his ethics

Who do you look up to? (If there isn’t anyone now, was there someone in the past?)
The captain greatly respects his former Alliance military leaders who saw the injustice of the war and decided to defect, even though it cost them their careers and, in some cases, their lives.

What offer would be irresistible enough for you to betray your friends and crew mates?
Nothing, he would rather die

What principles matters to you most?
Loyalty to crew, order, justice, freedom for all

What is your most treasured possession? Why?
6 Bottles of Pusser's British Navy Rum from Earth-That-Was. Sentimental value… but also extremely valuable and sought after by others, especially Navy types. Also keeps a cricket ball on him at all times…

What do you value most in all the ‘verse?
His reputation as honest and just

What are your ambitions? (What are you social, professional, and romantic goals? What do you wish you could do that you can’t?)
Would like to see all of the rim worlds protected by the Alliance but not as subjects but rather with full representation and rights in the Parliament. Could eventually end up as a politician to achieve this end?

Where do you picture yourself 20 years from now?
Representing the rights of all citizens of the Alliance, especially the Rim worlds being equally represented. Is thinking of maybe getting into politics to achieve this… could be a Rim world representative in Parliament?

What other kinds of work have you done to pay the bills?
Will take "smuggling" jobs if he feels they are just (medicine to rim worlds, etc). Has maintained Blackjack contacts and will do "illegal" jobs for them.

What are your political and religious beliefs, if you have any? (Do you have any prejudices?)
Likes the idea of the Alliance as a unifying government with representation and protection for all… but found quickly during the war that it doesn't work that way. Starting to think that changing the system from within (ie. becoming part of the government) might be the best way to achieve that. No religion… was raised Episcopal but was never particularly religious and the war got rid of any religion for him.

What were you doing during the Unification War? (How has the war affected you? Did you serve in the war? Which side? Did you lose anyone you cared about in the war?)
See above.

Do you have any hobbies? (How do you pass the time away?)
Likes reading about past military history - as far back as Earth-that-Was. Was a fairly good cricket player on Londinium and often practices pitching in the cargo hold… and yearns to meet another person who likes cricket…. no luck so far…

What event in your life that you did are you the most proud of? Most shameful of?
Proudest - tie: graduation from military school, the day he switched to the Independents. Shameful - his participation in whatever Alliance military action that caused his crew to turn to the Independents'

If you the player could give your character a piece of advice, what would it be?
RELAX!! Get to know your crew better… maybe even have a friend.

How do you feel about children?
Certainly don't like them underfoot on my ship. Secretly fond of children but gruff to them- would warm up them over time and become protective.
