Backstory

Bishop was deeply involved in the Malfi Blood-Sworn, achieving the rank of Blood Angel.

Later on in life he met a women, had a daughter. When he met his wife, Bishop was getting ready to retire. He had 7 more contracts to complete before he could. He wanted to protect his family from his other life, in order to do that he had to hide his family life from the Fellowship. This in no way was an easy task, it caused a lot of harsh relationships. Time with the family meant time away from the Fellowship and vice-versa. He established himself as a trader with his wife so long times away were no problem, and contracts were carried out throughout the Verse rarely returning to the Fellowship after completing one. There was plenty of time to slip in and spend some time with his family, and slip out to complete a contract. However contracts started to take longer and longer to complete as Bishop tried to spend more time with his family. The Arch Blood Angel Demetris was getting impatient with Bishop.

Bishop completed the last of his contracts and made his way to the fellowship. The Arch Blood Angel Demetris was waiting for him and called him to office. Bishop explained his tardiness although not looked well upon, was due to him deciding to retire from the Fellowship. He explained he was getting old and the contracts were not getting any easier for him. Bishop was the oldest member of the group second only to Demetris himself. Demetris understood and asked Bishop if he would have considered being the Arch Blood Angel himself. Bishop had considered it, but explained that even though the position was very honorable and he was flattered, that he humbly declined. There was more to life than this Bishop said and he had other things in the Verse he was hoping to pursue.

Demetris understood even though he was disappointed. None of the other Blood Angels showed promise and that was the only reason Demetris hadn't retired. The money for the seven contracts was paid in full, a small fortune that would sustain Bishop's family cozily for some time. The Exsanguination Ritual was scheduled to occur a months time from that date. In that time Bishop spent his days resting and recuperating from his seven contracts. It was very common to debrief from the events most contracts take place in very far off places and can take months to complete. In order to combat, the stress there is a debrief period where the Bloodsworn rests in the confines of the Fellowship. Massage, baths, food and drink. Like a roman legion commander coming home from war, they are treated with the utmost care and honor.

The night before Bishop's Exsanguination Ritual, Demetris called him into office. The personal favor Bishop had preformed for Demetris to become a Blood Angel was saving his life. Demetris wanted to thank Bishop personally for his service and tell him that he would be missed. Demetris offered to drink with him having bought a new wine for the occasion. He had tried some early knowing that Bishop wouldn’t mind and said it was fantastic, however, Demetris fell dead. Bishop was left alone in the room with the now dead Arch-Blood Angel. He checked to see if he was breathing, poison, the Arch-Blood Angel was dead. That's when Blood Angel Martin came in the door. Bishop was accused of murdering Demetris and was attacked. Bishop was able to kill Martin very quickly and quietly shutting him and Demetris in the room behind. Bishop grabbed his stuff and fled before anyone could ask what had happened.

He knew he would not be able to reason with the others knowing their strict adherence to the code. Not to mention someone willing to kill the Arch Angel would spare no justice for those who got in the way. He would garner no help from one or more of them. The question was who, that answer would not be easy to find out if Bishop intended to now. He had to flee, he had to get back to his family. Bishop traveled through the systems covering his tracks where he went. He got back on planet where his wife and daughter lived but didn’t head home right away. He had a few contacts on planet in case of an emergency where he had to get his family off planet fast. They were old friends and had no problem helping Bishop escape from the Blood-sworn.
They and Bishop were scheduled to leave the planet by nightfall using the night aurora as coverage. Bishop went back to his home to explain to his wife and daughter the dark secret he'd been hiding. However when he got back he found a surprise. Marquis and his adept Galius had already discovered his home. Marquis held his wife in his hands mouth taped over. Bishops daughter wasn’t back from choir practice yet a small blessing in disguise. Marquis merely had to track Bishop down and ask if people in the town recognized his face. Careless Marquis had called him and his carelessness would pay. Marquis asked him why Bishop had done it, he was retiring, he had no reason. Bishop tried to tell him he didn’t kill the Arch-Blood Angel that it been someone else. Marquis said it didn’t matter that he knew this already, but it was to late for Bishop, he was already marked as a Tainted Blood. Bishop asked what he meant by, he already knew.

“Well Bishop” Marquis smiled, What you should be saying is, truly, truly, I say to you, one of you will betray me."
Bishop griped the handle of his sword and looked Marquis in the eye. “ Well my Judas, whatever you're going to do, do quickly.”
With that Marquis slit Bishop's wife's throat, letting her drop to the floor. Bishop pulled and threw the knife he had slid from behind his back and pegged Galius in the shoulder knocking him back and sending him to the floor. Marquis charged but Bishop's parry was too fast knocking Marquis sword high. Of all the Blood Angel's, Bishop's swordsmanship was unmatched. It wasn’t an easy won fight by any means, but it was a fight that would be won. Bishop finished off Marquis, kicking his feet out from under him and thrusting his sword through his chest. As Marquis bleed out under Bishop's sword, he spoke his last words.

“ I am not your Judas, but you have held him very close to your breast before..” before Bishop could question him, the life from Marquis eyes faded. Bishop stood up and strode over to his wife. She was very much dead. Bishop wept over his wife until he heard a groan. Galius wasn’t dead.

Bishop questioned him about what Marquis meant but Galius it was clear, knew nothing, and merely was following orders. As an Adept he wasn’t a full Blood-sworn, but Bishop knew he couldn't let him live. As a young Adept, Bishop risk the same fate of dieing on the job or sub-coming to failure, this was no different.

Bishop's daughter came home. It would be years for her to fully accept the consequences but she understood the gravity of the situation. A small funeral was held in his wife's memory and Bishop ad his daughter fled. They were hunted, but bishop was also hunting trying to track down the man who killed his mentor. He now travels the verse, his secret and his daughter kept close and safe from everyone’s prying eyes. One day he will find the man who was responsible for the deaths of so many. However in doing so Bishop also has had to have a hard look on his own life of crime and dark acts. His life was its own undoing and it would take more than simply killing the man who killed his mentor to set things right. There was a life of discovery, self discovery, that still laid ahead of him. Killing wasn't the answer but it was the job he knew the best. Where in the Verse would a man like him be able to find peace. That's why he traveled, that and to keep his daughter safe from those that would do her harm.
